Thomas Robinson Banks, Jr.

 

In memory of Thomas Robinson Banks, Jr., 65 years,  who died April 2, 2009, Broward Co., Fla., son of Thomas Robinson Banks, Sr. (deceased),  and wife, Mary Lyle (Shipley) Banks (deceased) , of Orange Co., Fla., Orlando.   He is survived by one daughter, Collin (Banks) Pearce, (Matt), Tequesta, Fla., and one son, Thomas Robinson Banks, III (Constance) of Westport, Conn.  He is also survived by two sisters, Marion Abigail (Banks) Dennison of Las Vegas, NV., and Lyle Shipley (Banks) Shepherd of  Albuquerque, NM.

 
Tom was in the Tomato Brokerage business for many years having been trained by his father who was in the citrus business for many years.  He worked in Fla., Ca., Ariz., and SC over the years and finally just Fla. selling tomatos all over the country.
 
Tom was born January 19, 1944 in Hillsborough Co., Fla., St. Joseph's Hospital, Tampa,  but his family lived, at the time,  in Frostproof, Fla.  He descends from the House of James being the 4th g-grandson of James Banks and Charity Alston.  From there the descent is, Nathaniel Banks and Caroline Frances Hughes, Thomas Leonidas Banks and Sarah Eleanor Arnold, Thomas Charles Banks and Jessie Leonora McWhorter, Nathaniel McWhorter Banks and Marion Robinson, and finally parents, Thomas Robinson Banks and Mary Lyle Shipley.  Tom's maternal grandparents were Thomas Andrew Shipley and Jimmie Abigail Wilkerson of Frostproof, Fla.
 
Tom attended schools in Lakeland, Fla., Orlando, Fla., The Citadel in Charleston, SC for two years, and then graduated Huntingdon College, Montgomery, Ala.  He was cremated and his ashes spread in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
